A globally acclaimed Iranian professor of cardiovascular surgery will have his artwork showcased at a gallery in Tehran.

A solo painting exhibition titled ‘Shadow of Silence’, featuring a series of experimental works by heart surgeon Hormoz Mehmanesh, will be featured at the 1 Art Gallery in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Painter, curator and art researcher Behnam Kamrani has selected the featured acrylic works, including ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Desert Rain’.

The paintings are the “visual diaries” of 60-year-old Mehmanesh, a sort of “canvas talk” about his life.

“You use a mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul,” Mehmanesh said, referring to a quote by Irish playwright, critic and polemicist Bernard Shaw.

Mehmanesh is a self-taught painter, often abstracting humans, birds and trees to canvas. He is also a world-renowned heart surgeon, elite among his profession.

“For me, painting begins where speech fails to express my inner thoughts and emotions… Canvas … assimilates my imagination to reflect my soul,” Mehmanesh said.

The ‘Shadow of Silence’ exhibit will be featured at the Tehran gallery from May 12 - 26.
